Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you charge a reading fee?

A: No, we don’t. We are happy to read through all submissions.

Q: Do you charge any fees when taking on a client?

A: No fees whatsoever. We don't charge or take a penny until you start earning from your published/commissioned work. As such, you can rest assured that we will work tirelessly with your best interests at heart - leaving you to focus on your creative craft.

Q: What does an agent do?

A: You can read about the role of the agent, here.

Q: How does the publishing process work?

A: You can learn more about the publishing process here.

Q: Do you accept submissions of short story collections?

A: Yes, we do.

Q: Do you accept novellas?

A: Yes, we do.

Q: Do you accept submissions from other genres?
A: Unfortunately, we are only looking for submissions of works belonging to the horror and dark fantasy genres.

Q: Can I submit more than one manuscript at a time?

A: Although we are happy to receive more than one submission from you, please ensure that each manuscript is submitted separately and follows the submission guidelines. Please also consider that we can only read one at a time, so perhaps it would be more useful to spend your time fine-tuning one of your manuscripts or submission documents while you wait to hear back from us on the other.

Q: You have turned down my submission. What do I do next?

A: We are sorry that we did not take up your submission at this time. There are typically thousands of submissions made to literary agents each year, and each agent takes on only a few exceptional clients to work with. Our best advice would be to continue with your writing and perhaps seek support from others in the reading/writing community – like reading clubs or writing groups. Keep honing your craft, as writers only get better with each book they write. Just because we decided against representing you this time, does not mean we won’t welcome any future submissions from you.

Q: Can I have feedback on my submission?

A: We are not able to offer feedback for all submissions we receive. However, we may do so if we are interested in seeing a redrafted version of your submission.

Q: What do you mean by ‘children’s books with subtle horror themes’?

A: Of course, every writer writes with a specific audience in mind. Although most horror stories may not be appropriate for children, many a young imagination has been captivated by a spooky tale or two – whether it’s an adventure with a friendly ghost, or a visit to ‘a dark dark house in a dark dark street’. We are interested in submissions of children’s books where there are clear yet subtle conventions related to the horror genre.

Q: What is a non-fiction proposal?

Q: Do you have any tips on what to include in a submission covering letter?

Q: How do I write a good synopsis?
