Writing a Covering Letter
All submissions should be accompanied by a covering letter. Below are some useful tips about what to include.
-
Give us your best sales pitch and sound bite. How would you sell your story to a publisher in one sentence?
-
A two or three-sentence summary of what the story is about. Don’t cover the entire story. The attached synopsis will do this.
-
Who is your intended audience? Are there any comparable stories or writers already out there?
-
Write a few sentences to tell us about yourself. What should we really know about you at this early stage?
-
Have you already published your submission independently or through a third party online (such as Amazon)? How has it gone so far? Include any accurate figures or statistics.
-
Tell us why you are submitting your work to us. Is your work also with other agents or publishers?
